Field Notes

Description:

It can reach 3m high.

The plant is biennial producing a dense rosette of leaves in the first year and producing the distinctive inflorescence to a height of 1–3 metres during the second year.

The flowers are white and the plant is in bloom from February to April in Tenerife.

It is very attractive to honey bees which produce a a distinctively flavoured honey.
This honey when fluid is a very light, almost white with shades of amber yellow, depending on the surrounding flora. When crystalized it presents a color between white and light beige.
It is a very mild honey that when added to food do not mask its scent.

Habitat:

It is endemic in the island of Tenerife mainly in Macizo de Anaga.
