Field Notes

Description:

Small Cuttlefish and their name says it all - flambuoyant!
Females (up to 8 cm) are usually larger than then Male.
They put on an amazing flashing display; with the flashing from the front running to the back of their body when they are on the move. Their tentacles are brightly coloured, looks like flower/orchid - in purple/pink, yellow, white, black and brown.
When not moving, they tone down their flashing and colouration and is able to blend in very well with their surrounding as in Pic#4.
Pics#1, #2 and #3 shows them on a hunting mode, by way of 'shooting' out their proboscis/tongue which has a 'sticky' tip to catch shrimps.
Pic#6 is a cropped out image to show that it has managed to catch a shrimp, only the legs of the shrimps can be seen.

Habitat:

Usually around coral rubbles or sandy bottoms.
