Field Notes

Description:

Probably named for the ones first seen in Indonesia by Dutch explorers, Crab-eating or 'long-tailed' macaques are a very common monkey in South East Asia. They may be considered the 'stereotypical monkey' of most people's imagination.

Habitat:

They live virtually everywhere in South East Asia, but these ones were seen very commonly along the Kinabatangan river and also inland in places like Sepilok. Many are habituated to human contact.
