Field Notes

Description:

During the winter it is difficult to tell some of the terns. In the winter though these will have a long comma shaped dark mark behind their eyes and dark bills with some orange near the face. In spring they will have a black cap, orange and black bill and orange legs and feet. Tail is long and forked.

Habitat:

Marshes, coastlines, bays and rivers.

Notes:

Theses were in the baylands. As they came in you can hear this eerie cawing way up high as they swiftly flew around. Then one by one they would come down to rest on this small patch on land in the middle of the estuary.
You can see in the images some of them came in with small fish in their bills.
