Description:
Two Orange Sulfur Butterflies are mating. The windspans are approximately 2.5 inches. Both show variable shades of yellow. The female has a distinctive silver spot surrounded by two concentric dark rings (partially hidden by the grass blade. The spot on the male has a very small silver spot surrounded by a large black spot.
Habitat:
Grassy meadow with abundant emerging wildflowers and surrounded by trees.
Notes:
A light rain shower occured prior to this photo. Drops of rain can be seen in the lower left of this photo, The fields are alive with these butterflies but they quickly leave there perch when approached. One to two males approach the female. Once mating commences, the butterflies have a reduce flight activity and they can be approached. Photo taken with a Samsung cellphone.
