Spicebush Swallowtail Butterfly ( Pupa )

I went over to a friends house to visit, and to see her backyard butterfly garden. Her butterfly garden, had lots of nectar and host plants, for the different species of butterflies and moths. On one of the host plants, we saw the pupa of a Spicebush Swallowtail Butterfly. The pupa was green in color, with some brown coloring too. This pupa, was one and one fourth of an inch long, and three eights of an inch wide. It had a pair of horns, at the top end of the pupa. It had a brown line, running down the center of the pupa. Had some brown dots, on both sides, of the center brown line. This green pupa, looked like a green leaf. It had some raised green lines, running across the wing area of this pupa, and these raised green lines, looked like leaf veins. The Spicebush Swallowtail, is one of North America's, most popular butterflies. It also has the elongated 'tails', at the tips of the hindwings. Caterpillars, feed on: Spicebush, Sassafras, and Bay Plants. Order: Lepidoptera Family: Papilionidae Genus: Papilio Species: troilus Spicebush Swallowtail Pupa, tend to resemble the stems on which they are attached, either green or brown.
