On my evergreen tree but lookalike it's killing tree.

This is a type of Foliose Lichen. Don't know enough about them, but looks like Parmelia sulcata. My understanding is that lichens are common on tree bark and don't harm the tree, but read this information: http://www.starnewsonline.com/article/20100128/ARTICLES/100129660
