Eastern Pondhawk
Erythemis simplicicollis
32.901, -83.7407
Field Notes
Description:
The Eastern Pondhawk attack and feed on insect prey, hence their name. They are good predators and can take down prey as large as themselves. Adult males are powdery blue with yellow-tipped abdomens; adult females are bright green with rings around the abdomen. This specimen would not allow me to get closer and unfortunately all I had was a cell phone camera at the time.
Habitat:
Central Georgia
Notes:
Cell phone photography - dragonfly would not allow me to approach close enough to get a good photograph
