Common Buckeye Butterfly ( Adult)

One morning, I went outside, and I saw an adult, common buckeye butterfly, resting on a green bush, that was in front of my house. I put one finger near its feet, and then this butterfly, walked onto the top of my finger, and rested there. I took this butterfly inside my house with me. Inside my house, this butterfly rested on my finger, rested on my hand, climbed all the way up my arm, and then rested on top of my shoulder. This butterfly, was very, very, tame. After about one hour, I went outside with this butterfly, who was still resting on my shoulder. I then put this butterfly, back on the green bush, where I first saw it. Order: Lepidoptera Family: Nymphalidae Genus: Junonia Species: J. coenia The common buckeye butterfly, has numerous bold eyespots on its forewing, that resembles a ' buck's eye '. The caterpillar is black, with white and orange lines and stripes. These caterpillars love to feed on plants from the plantain, verbena, figwort, snapdragon, monkey flower, and stone crop families. Adult size: ( length ) 51 mm to 63 mm ( 2.01 to 2.48 in ) Wingspan: 32 to 60 mm Identifying Colors: brown, orange, white, black, yellow, blue, and tan. Pupa: light brown with darker markings. They have distinctive, multicolored eyespots, on its open forewings and hindwings. Upper side is brown. Forewing with 2 orange cell bars and 2 eyespots; part of white subapical band appears in the largest, lower eyespot. Hindwing has 2 eyespots; upper one is largest, and contains a magenta crescent. Underside of hindwing, is brown or tan in the wet season ( summer ) form, and rose - red, in the dry season ( fall ) form.
