Field Notes

Description:

The small heath (Coenonympha pamphilus) is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae, (subfamily Satyrinae, commonly known as "the browns"). It is a rather common Greek butterfly, but its the first one I ever spotted and photographed, while it was foraging on a tordylium apulum, in an olive grove in Nea demetrias, Volos city, Greece.
