Field Notes

Description:

Green and yellow with black spots, dashes and bands. Length: up to 1.75 inches - 45 mm. Found feeding on Queen Anne's Lace. Active. Absorbs toxins from plants. Bitter taste to predators. Releases foul smelling odor if as a defense.

Habitat:

New meadow that use to be my lawn (2 years). Variety of grasses, weeds, plants and flowers.

Notes:

Gave caterpillar to a family to raise. They put caterpillar in butterfly house and saw it emerge to an adult butterfly. I was not present for the event. I believe it was a girl.
