Field Notes

Description:

A small common bat resting under a ceiling quite startled by the camera flash. Reddish brown in color. Body size small enough to fit into a human hand. This species, along with most bat species are nocturnal - rest during the day and only flies to hunt from dusk to dawn. Emballonura sp.

Habitat:

Found it roosting under a ceiling in the Canopy Bridge in Tawau Hills Park, Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia. This species lives in this tropical rain forest area.

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy : 3km radius. Most probably an insect-eater. They are quite common around the park area. One can find several of them hanging under the ceilings of wooden buildings. They probably catch nocturnal flying insects that are attracted to lamp posts.
