Field Notes

Description:

Common snake in Kerala, mainly found near water. Eats fish. Non venomous. But very aggressive and readily bites any handler. This snake is a large specimen about 80cm long. Mimics a cobra by flattening the neck portion and rearing up.

Habitat:

Spotted it when it came to my fish pond.

Thank you Dr. Sherpa for your comment.. This snake is actually quite harmless but once a Sawscale viper came visiting my home... That was very scary indeed!!!
I actually hate snakes. May be as a doctor I've seen so many people die or maimed due to their bite! But your photo I couldn't help but 'like'! Karela's famous for King Cobras! Better watch out when you tread into the beautiful Nilgiris!
Nick, Desmond, trigsturner, InesVeloso and Neil...Thank you so much dear friends..
Wonderful series Sunny. Thank you so much for sharing these.
Probably some of my favorite snake photos ever!!!
