Field Notes

Description:

A couple of dragonflies mating, the male (in blue) is grasping female's neck with his anal appendages, "inviting" the female to bend her abdomen to join her genital opening with his copulating organ.

Male is brightly blue in colour with black pattern on his abdomen, female olive green, transparent wings with black pterostigma.
35mm in size approx.

Habitat:

Spotted at Manado area, Sulawesi.

Notes:

The blue riverdamsel is a common species damselflies in the Coenagrionidae family.
