Field Notes

Description:

This frogfish has a large globe shaped body, a large mouth and pectoral fins which look like limbs. Upto about 30 cm in length.

Habitat:

Sits on the bottom on rock and coral reefs, on depths from 4 to at least 45 metres. Solitary animal. Hard to spot because of extraordinary camouflage. If harassed it will jump & hop away, like a frog.

Notes:

This fish is not quite common around Isla de Coco - spotted this one off Isla Pájara.
