Description:

Order: Lepidoptera
Family: Hesperiidae

Habitat:

Open field surrounded by forests. It is an overgrown sandhills area and needs a good burn. Not much vegetation except for sparse trees and small plants such as this one the Skipper is on.

Notes:

Picture was taken at the Econlockhatchee Sandhills Conservation Area.

Not a Meske's because it lacks the post-median spot band (usually shows a little lighter yellow on the underside). Not a Fiery because it lacks the darker spots on the underside of both wings. This appears to be a Delaware, although it is a little darker than most - the most common skipper that lacks virtually all markings except the tan fringe on the underside. Beautiful photo!
