Field Notes

Description:

The fruiting bodies were brown with a pale tan margin. They were clamshell-shaped and lacked a true stem. There was a white bloom on some of the caps. Gills were tan.

Habitat:

Growing on a fallen birch tree in a mixed forest.

Notes:

This is the first spotting of this species on Project Noah.

Thanks Brian! I thought it was birch, but could be wrong. My tree ID skills are sadly basic.
Nice find! Any idea what the branch came from? It looks like alder, but hard to tell.
