Field Notes

Description:

Arachnura higginsi (Koch, 1872). My identification is based on pictures in https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/202201-Arachnura/browse_photos.... and Wikipedia's article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachnura_higginsi

Habitat:

Spotted on its web, moored to the drooping branches of a clump of bamboo in the rice mill backyard. The species of bamboo may or may not be relevant, but it is a Spiny Bamboo (Bambusa blumeana) locally called Kawayan Tinik.

Notes:

I do not yet have a reliable citation for the presence of this spider in the Philippines, but I will find one and add it here within a few days. If I cannot find such a reference, I will edit this spotting accordingly.
