Field Notes

Description:

Male and female blue jays look nearly the same. They have the same color scheme of blue plumage with white heads. Males are slightly larger than females. The crest on the blue jay's head determines its mood. If it is raised, the bird is excited or angry.

Habitat:

The blue jay lives in many places. It prefers less dense wooded areas. These birds adapt very well to changing environments and can make a means of living in many settings. They range from southern Canada to the southern US.
