Description:
The caterpillar has a white and black marbled skin with orange and yellow spines covered in black tips. The feet of the caterpillar have red.The species feed on Hackberry, (celtis) sitting on the back to be not seen by preadetors.The spines are for protection they are not venomous in any way.The caterpillars exhibit the same colors as the butterflies with white, black and red.The host plants are chopped down because many people think that they are invasive.The butterfly can be found through all of North America and parts of Central America.
Habitat:
Semi-Urban, Fort Worth, Texas.
Notes:
3rd or 4th instar larvae.
