Field Notes

Description:

This stipe of this mushroom is 7 cm tall (from the ground to the underside of the pileus). The pileus is 7.5 cm in diameter and has lamellae on the underside as can be seen in the first photo above.

Habitat:

This mushroom was spotted in our front garden in a well shaded area where it will get little or no direct sunlight. It was growing right at the base of a Tamarind Tree (Tamarindus indica) locally known as Sampalok. It is difficult to tell if the stipe is growing out of the tree or from the garden soil as it appears exactly at the point where the surface of the soil meets the tree trunk.
