Field Notes

Description:

~5.8 cm long fusiform fish. Golden brown body with 2 dark lateral lines separated by a lighter brown, then a white line between them. The belly on the males become flushed with red during spring breeding. The fins are a bright neon yellow.

Habitat:

Spring fed creek in a large pool, deepest portion was just over 24 inches. Substrate was a gravelly bottom.

Notes:

Fish was caught in a minnow trap, photographed and released unharmed.
