Description:

Many 100 to 1,000s of Wood Frogs were spotted in the series of Vernal ponds in the Barre, VT town forest. The wood frogs are usually the first to hit the water in spring. The advertisement call of the male is duck-like quacking. These could be heard for a very long distance. Pink, tan, reddish brown to black. Dark robber mask. light line on upper lip. Second image is with his belly making the croak sound. Third image is on mating.

Habitat:

damp shady woodlands, open areas in the North. In vernal ponds (no fish).

Notes:

Unbelievable seeing so many frogs. Lovely sound.
