Description:

Black Slug: I went outside at 8:30 a.m. in the morning, and I saw a long black slug, resting on the concrete walkway. It was moving very slowly, towards the grass. This slug was in the extended position, and it was about three inches long. I picked the slug up with my fingers, and it went into the contracted position ( got smaller ), to about one and one fourth of an inch long. The color of this slug was black. It's two lower tentacles were black. This slug was alive, and able to move. Slug, or land slug, is a common name for any apparently shell-less terrestrial gastropod Mollusc. Phylum: Mollusca Class: Gastropoda The external anatomy of a slug, includes the following: tentacles, mantel, tail, keel, foot, and the vestigial shell. Slug, is a common term, for any snail-like gastropod mollusk, in which the shell is absent, very reduced, or small and internal. A slug, is simply a snail without a shell.

Habitat:

Slugs prefer to live in damp, cool conditions. Slugs are found around the world, and hardy enough to live in most climates, as long as they have moisture. A typical slug habitat, is near human-made structures, such as a garden, a farm, or a garbage dump. They seek shelter underneath flower pots, wood pieces, leaves and other items during the day, and they come out at night, to search for food and lay eggs.
