Field Notes
Description:
Salamanders are closely tied to water. Their skin is moist and thin. The adults lay their eggs in water - usually attached to a stick. Salamander eggs have extra gel around the egg cluster in comparison to frog eggs. Eggs laid in water hatch into larvae with tufted gills. (Eggs laid on land, bypass this stage). These eggs were in a vernal pool and may be from a Spotted Salamander.
Habitat:
Vernal woodland pools (no fish).
