Field Notes

Description:

Iridescent blue winged and red bodied wasp.

Habitat:

Flew onto large boulders next to a public pond in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Notes:

From what I've found, this wasp is a Floridian and has only been found as far north as north Carolina. I have had an awful time identifying it in Pennsylvania because of this. But here it is.

It's been spotted as far north as Ohio according to this website, https://bugguide.net/node/view/358491/data and identifying species is a lot of work sometimes :) Congrats on your first spotting!
Devon5, Welcome to Project Noah. Please see the FAQ about what makes a "spotting." For example, you must have taken the picture yourself. If you did, can you please post the original without the social media surround? If not, please remove this spotting but do stay in Project Noah with your own wildlife photos. Looking forward to seeing more!
