Field Notes

Habitat:

Great White Herons occur in central and southern
Florida, Cuba, the Isle of Pines, the coasts of Yucatan and
Quintana Roo, and off Venezuela in a variety of coastal and inland habitats.
Great White Herons nest primarily on isolated
mangrove islands.

Notes:

My first spotting of this bird. Having seen many Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets in the Everglades, I could tell this was no Egret. It was larger and more robust, it was as if someone had bleached a Great Blue Heron, legs and all. As the article states there has been debate as to this being a proper subspecies or a color morph.
