Field Notes

Habitat:

Found on a Goldenrod plant in our vegetable garden.

Notes:

This wasp was masticating and balling up its prey. Preparing it to feed to its larvae. I believe it had captured the Glassy-winged grasshopper from my previous spotting. My evidence is circumstantial. The grasshopper was gone, The ball was green and I had seen no caterpillars in the Goldenrod that morning. These wasps prey primarily on caterpillars.
