Description:
This species is found in our yard in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin almost every day. They are herbivores; their stomachs allow them to digest many different things. Things such as fruit, nuts, grass, twigs, leaves, corn, fungi, and alfalfa. They have a gestation period if 7 months and give birth to 1-3 young in May or June. Their young are called fawns.
Habitat:
Winter: coniferous forests
Summer: meadows, and sometimes coniferous forests for shade.
They are found in North America, South America, and Southern Canada. Their predators in these regions include Bobcats, Mountain Lions, Coyotes, and people.
Notes:
This species has a reddish-brown coat that fades to gray in the winter.
