Field Notes

Description:

This skipper had a wingspan of about 30mm. Fore wings were a dark brown with orange patches. The hind wings had a single orange band and a thin orange line ran along the whole length of the trailing wing margins. Abdomen was dark and stout. Antennal tips were orange.

Habitat:

Spotted resting on mat rush ( Lomandra sp.)

Notes:

The larvae of these skippers feed on various species of mat rush. They rest in silken shelters at the base of the food plant during the day and come out to feed at night. <br> Family: Hesperiidae <br> Subfamily: Trapezitinae
