Field Notes

Description:

A rail type water bird standing 18-24 inches high. Yellow beak, red cartilaginous top not with dusky white to blue feathers. Similar to the native purple gallinule but larger and not distinct in color.

Habitat:

Manmade swampy everglade preserve.
