Field Notes

Description:

A shed skin of what could be a water insect . . . or not. The skin was about 34 cm long.

Habitat:

This skin was found "stuck" to the top of a water barrel under our eaves in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador. It is light olive green in color

Notes:

I painstakingly stalked this "insect" moving at the speed of rust so as not to scare it. I got the first photo, then moved in and gently touched it to get a different pose. If fell off in my hand. So, I now have confidence in my ability to stalk inanimate objects. I have seen water bugs about that size in the barrel and wonder if it might be from them. I believe I have a picture somewhere so will try to post it for help in identifying this skin.
