Field Notes

Description:

The only thing better than to see a Turquoise-browed motmot is ... to see two of them. One has a prey in the beak. They didn't mind the rain.

Habitat:

Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, Yucatan peninsula.

Notes:

"Unlike most bird species, where only males express elaborate traits, the turquoise-browed motmot expresses the extraordinary racketed tail in both sexes". -Wikipedia.

Yes Christine, it is called pájaro reloj ("clock bird") in the Yucatán, based on its habit of wagging its tail like a pendulum.
Very unique looking with the bare feather shafts on their tail feathers!
