Field Notes

Description:

The pineapple is the best known member of the genus Ananas and the "most economically significant plant in the Bromeliaceae family". It is indigenous to South America. The first photo is s closeup of the emerging fruit which is described as an "edible multiple fruit consisting of coalesced berries."

Habitat:

Originally planted in my garden but left on their own to grow as they will. This is in the equatorial tropics of northern lowland New Guinea.
