Field Notes

Description:

Flowers approximately 0.5 inches in diameter; five salmon-orange petals with deep red-orange band at their base. Flowers open in sunlight; close when overcast. Leaves are simple but palmate, divided into six –seven lobes; arrangement, alternate. Plants grow ‘flush’ with the ground, resembling a groundcover.

Habitat:

Growing beside the road, mainly in areas that were mowed. This plant was growing out onto the pavement.

Member of the Hibiscus family, Malvaceae
