Field Notes

Description:

A large bug, 3 to 4 cm long body, mainly brown, with orange discoloration on joints of legs - I believe it may be some assassin bug. Elongated and flattened body, with very long antennae and long legs.

Habitat:

This one have been hanging in our office in Abuja for the last three days... Central area of the city; close to a large lake and green area with a lot of gardens.

Notes:

According to my Internet search, this one closely resembles members of the Acanthocoris or Leptoglossus genus, which are common in many tropical and subtropical regions, including Nigeria.

Hallo Zlatan. When I saw this spotting I saw an Assassin Bug. The tribe Harpactorini have many species in Africa, https://www.inaturalist.org/places/africa-d6e73131-50b2-458c-bf7c-837f48f7844a#q=Harpactorini. Some have black stripes down at the side of the abdomen. This is perhaps not fully adult. It has not swollen hind tibiae like the Leaf-Footed Bug.
Closing up on this one after few years... but all help appreciated!
