Field Notes
Description:
Gorgeous black bird. Very large bird, about 50/60 cm. Black bill, and red or orange striped markings on tail. Best seen when landing or manoeuvring mid air. Noisy.
The first 3 pictures are of a female (recognisable by the colouring of her tail ) and the last one is a male. (red tail bands)
Habitat:
In the trees near the beach. Flying Fish Point, Queensland, Australia
Notes:
When we arrived I saw one flying over our head. I was/ am sooo excited! I did not even know these black cockatoos existed. Consequently I went out the next day to see if I could get a nice picture of them. I shot 100 photo's and still it was very hard to get them. The sun was facing me, they were doing weird things with their plumage -cleaning?- they flew over and made sudden movements etc etc. Anyway I have not given up yet but could not wait to post these on PN already. I will probably post more of these photo sessions as I can not get enough of them!
