Field Notes

Description:

These caterpillars were about 25 mm long. They were covered with long white hairs and short tufts of white and yellowish-brown hairs on either side of a black patterned dorsal side. Lateral to the tufts of hair were a pair of thin pale lines. the sides of the body showed balck and whit emottled pattern.
The head and thoracic legs were red. I could make out at least 4-pairs of pro-legs.

Habitat:

Spotted in a cluster on a young eucalyptus tree in a nature reserve.

Notes:

Larvae are said to feed on various plants of the Myrtaceae family.
