Field Notes

Description:

Really tattered and worn, but still alive! Endemic to Australia.

Habitat:

Along the side of the Hazards Beach trail, in the scrub and grass. As Mark pointed out in his comment, Australia can be really dry and hot. I read that these butterflies will seek refuge in caves or banks to escape the sun.

Notes:

Will rest in leaf litter and move the position of their wings to regulate their temperature.

Thanks, Mark. Yes, I was disappointed to see the Cabbage White in Tasmania and New South Wales.
ID looks right. They are amazingly persistent. Although it's been incredibly dry over the last 3 months they just keep on appearing. (along with Pieris rapae of course :( )
