Field Notes

Description:

Herbaceous perennial plant. Stems (height 30-40 cm.) green at the base and purple on the apex. The leaves, grouped at the base of the stem, are oblong-lanceolate, pale green, sometimes with brownish-purple speckles (see last photo). Flowers in dense cylidrical spikes. Spurs of the flowers horizontal or directed upwards.

Habitat:

Open area in woodland (beech and chestnut trees) in mount Chortiatis (Thessaloniki, Greece).
