I picked up a hitch-hiker today on the trail.

It clung on for 10 minutes as I was walking!

I think this is one of the Genus Aeshna - Mosaic Darners, but I'm not sure which from the photos. Now Aeshna umbrosa - Shadow Darner is the only one reported to bugguide from Virginia ( it doesn't mean it is the only one found there).
