Thank you. Actually it had not hatched and was still soft in the center. Too bad.

Cool find! This is the egg case from a Skate (relative of sharks). many of the egg cases that wash up on the beach have already hatched. Was it hollow? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skate Since this is an egg case from a Fish you should move this to the Fish section.
