Red-eared Slider Turtle
Trachemys scripta elegans
33.1527, -97.0461
Field Notes
Description:
Red-eared sliders are almost entirely aquatic, but leave the water to bask in the sun and lay eggs. These reptiles are deceptively fast and are also decent swimmers. They hunt for prey and will attempt to capture it when the opportunity presents itself. They are aware of predators and people, and generally shy away from them.
Habitat:
Man made retention pond. Fishing is allowed. There are many of this species of turtle in this pond.
Notes:
This big turtle has gotten itself in trouble with a fish hook in its mouth. Sad :(
