Noctuid Moth
16.7128, -92.6137
Field Notes
Description:
A wonderful lichen marked moth about 3 cm long that I have never seen before. The camouflage would be very hard to spot on lichen covered bark. A close up of the thoracic hair shows an expanded structure to help look more like bark. The underwings are pale brown with a brown jagged margin. The legs and abdomen are striped. Family Noctuidae.
Habitat:
Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
