White Clover
Trifolium repens
37.226, -95.7047
Field Notes
Description:
You know I've seen this plant all over the place, both in the media and in my environment. Never had the thought to figure out what its binomial name or even what it was actually called until now. I knew it was a clover from all the "four leaf clover" business that went around on the playgrounds, but that was about it. It's actually a bean. So I mean, that's cool. While not easy to digest raw, boiling them for ten minutes can fix that. So chow down.
Habitat:
Native to Europe and central Asia. It has been widely introduced worldwide as a yard crop, and is now also common in most grassy areas of North America and New Zealand.
Notes:
In the background of the photo you can see a small glimpse of sourgrass.
