Description:

Single or in groups, these clublike fungus grow straight out of the ground, sometimes in masses as in photo#3. Purple when fresh, they go lighter or browner as they age.

Habitat:

Found beside the gravel lane in the campground for the whole week I was there. Lightning Lake, Manning Park, BC. North Cascades Mountain Range.
