Field Notes

Description:

Two birds darting about, similar in size to larks, with a speckled pattern on the breast and orange linear markings above the eye and on the face. Wings have white markings.

Habitat:

Seen on the Lake Erie shoreline at Presque Isle State Park.

Notes:

I believe this bird may be a female red-winged blackbird! However, I’d be very excited if it were a thrush, especially the redwing, Turdus iliacus, as it is an accidental species (recorded 3 or fewer times in the past 10 years) as per the Pennsylvania Ornithological Records Committee... the latter seems unlikely, though. :)
