Field Notes

Description:

Cap, ca. 2.5 inches diameter; off-white; bald. No bruising of flesh when sliced.
Pore surface. White when young; bruising slightly brown; purplish when older; 2-3 pores/mm.
Stipe. Approximately 3 inches long; 1-1.5 inches diameter; white, bruising brown; enlarging towards the base; reticulation on the upper third of the stipe; hollowing; no bruising of flesh when sliced.
No appreciable color change with KOH (3%) or NH4OH.
Spore print: Pink-brown.
Spores. Smooth; 10-13µ x 3-4µ

Habitat:

Growing approximately 2-3 feet from Loblolly Pine (Pinus taeda). (Several more developing at the base of the pine trunk.
