Description:

This is a nymph of the Genus Dysdercus and I think it is probably Dysdercus koenigii. It looks very much like some of the nymphs, shown in https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1801941244..... the colours on the legs, the budding wings and the white "collar" between the head and the thorax, all seem to add up to D. koenigii, but there is a bit of a puzzle here. The first picture is closely cropped, to show the insect as big as possible, but I have also shown the uncropped picture, partly to give a better idea of the Habitat, but also to show that it is completely alone. I have never seen a solitary Red Cotton Stainer nymph and, as far as I know, these nymphs never leave their host plant, until they are adults and can fly. It is a bit of a conundrum.

Habitat:

This Red Cotton Stainer (nymph) was spotted on an unidentified plant (weed), growing in a rice field which was allowed to rest fallow, in between rice growing seasons.
