Description:

This is a long-horned bee in the Genus Melissodes. Per BugGuide, Females are 13-15 mm, males: 11-13 mm. The name "bimaculata" refers to the two white spots near the tip of the abdomen. Generally distributed throughout the Eastern United States, reaching North Dakota, Colorado and New Mexico in the West.

Habitat:

This one was observed at constructed ponds adjacent to a large freshwater swamp near Augusta (Richmond County), GA.

Notes:

Season is May to October.
